Simple care. Longer service life.
A few simple habits can help keep your canopy, frame and moving parts looking better and working properly for longer.
The essentials
Do not leave an umbrella open unattended or in windy conditions. Closing and securing it is one of the most important ways to avoid preventable damage.
Use the base or installation recommended for your umbrella model and site. Contact us if the area is particularly exposed.
An Easy Reach Cover helps protect the canopy from dirt and weather when the umbrella is not being used for extended periods.
Brush off loose debris first. For light marks, use mild soapy water with a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach and aggressive scrubbing.
Do not store or cover a wet canopy for long periods. Let it dry fully before extended storage to reduce the chance of mould, mildew and staining.
Periodically inspect pulleys, cords, sliders, arms, fasteners and fittings. Small issues are usually easier to deal with before they become larger failures.
Timber frames
Keep the frame clean and dry where practical and inspect it periodically for surface wear or loose fittings. Timber will naturally change in appearance over time outdoors.
Close when not in use, use the correct base, keep the canopy dry and inspect moving parts.
Leaving the umbrella open in wind, storing it wet, harsh cleaning chemicals or ignoring damaged cords and fittings.
A worn canopy or component does not always mean replacing the entire umbrella. We offer replacement canopies, spare parts and repair support through The Broken Umbrella.
